[ARCHIVED] Milton WINS King of the Rock Contest for the 2020 Census

Milton WINS King of the Rock Contest

The City of Milton officially won the King of the Rock Contest for the 2020 Census with an 82.1% self-response rate with the City of Edgerton and City of Janesville close behind at 81% and 79% respectively.

The City of Milton community members will be able to say for the next 10 years they are King of the Rock.  On the line was also pizzas for the winning municipality’s Council, which Milton’s Council will be sending to the Milton Area Youth Center.

There is still time to complete the 2020 Census.  The official deadline to complete the census is September 30, 2020.  The municipalities encourage their community members to complete the census questionnaire online (, by phone (844-330-2020), by mail if they receive a paper copy, or by answering the questions of an enumerator (census employee) when they visit their home using all required safety protocols.

“Our community members should be proud of this accomplishment, as well as the community members in Edgerton and Janesville for having such high self-response rates,” City of Milton Mayor Anissa Welch said.  “However, our goal is still to reach a 100% response rate.  Please encourage your friends and family members to complete the census.”

More than $675 billion in federal funding – trillions of dollars over the next decade – is attached to population counts. Communities that are undercounted risk missing out on federal funding for programs including housing, transportation, health care, education, and other social services. That’s why it is so important that we count every person in Rock County – funding for our schools, roads, and elder care depend on it.  In addition, population counts are used to reapportion seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and drawing legislative districts at all levels.
