Project Description
The City of Milton contracted for street rehabilitation and utility work to take place on N. Clear Lake Avenue from the city limits to the W. Madison Avenue intersection and on W. Madison Avenue from the N. Clear Lake Avenue intersection to the First Street intersection.
Work on the N. Clear Lake Avenue segment started at the beginning of June 2023 and work on the W. Madison Avenue segment will start on July 5, 2023. The road will be closed to through-traffic until September. The official detour route for State Highway 59 traffic is County Highway N east to Milton Road, which connects with Business Hwy 26/Janesville Street in the City of Milton, and then south to connect again with State Highway 59. The closures will accommodate school bus traffic through June 8 (the last day of school), refuse and recycling collection, and local residential traffic.
This section of roadway in the City received a high number of complaints due to the severe pavement deterioration. Because this section of road is considered a Connecting Highway, routine maintenance is the responsibility of the City and rehabilitation or reconstruction is the responsibility of the State of Wisconsin. Staff has been informed the State will not perform any major construction work on this road for a number of years. Therefore, at the direction of the Common Council earlier in 2023, staff proposed a funding package to perform improvements on this roadway and Council approved the work. This project will cost just under $2 million and will include utility work and rehabilitation of the street.
