The former Ad-Hoc Crossridge Park Committee and now the Parks & Recreation Commission have been working over the last decade to establish a prairie at the park. The prairie now encompasses approximately 4 acres of the park. A portion of the parkland was sold to the YMCA of Northern Rock County to construct a facility.
In October the Parks & Recreation Commission organizes a Prairie Seed Collection at Crossridge Park. The seed picked is planted in various locations to beautify the city and reduce mowing costs. Attendees can also collect seed during the event to plant on their own property.
Seed collection is fun and easy for people of all ages. Small children should be accompanied by an adult. Seed collection is most often done by hand (snapping off seed head). However, some people find scissors or snips helpful.
